People in huge numbers are found to suffer from heart diseases and this number is only found to be increasing with passing time. The reason is because of the sedentary lifestyle led by people and due to wrong eating habits. They face symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and dizziness, all of which are indications of the disease affecting them. It is rather stated to be a heart disease, which might require undergoing aortic valve replacement surgical procedure. It is also considered to be open heart surgery, performed by well known cardiothoracic surgeons.

When such surgery will be required?
Two particular conditions may exist which will require the patients to undergo aortic valve replacement surgical procedure. Narrowing condition is termed as Stenosis. The condition where it is found to be leaking, is called Regurgitation.
The condition is known to affect both the old and the young alike. This particular heart disease can be termed to be an abnormality that may have occurred at the time of birth or as the person ages. A common type of congenital condition is Bicuspid. This affects about 1% - 2% of the global population. This particular condition may cause it to get diseased and progresses with age. It is called Senile Aortic Calcification. The reason is because of increased calcium amounts getting deposited. It might result in Regurgitation or Stenosis.

Symptoms
The other common signs indicating this disease are shortness of breath while undertaking even less strenuous activities. In this condition, the heart is compelled to work much harder. It might result if the patient experiences chest pain. It is found to be similar to the symptoms faced by heart attack patients. The other symptoms faced by the patients are experiencing fainting spells, getting dizzy or light headed. This will mean having to undergo this particular surgery. With valve replacement cost in India being less, patients advised with this surgical procedure can find remedy and satisfaction.

When to undergo the surgical procedure?
The decision to avail this surgical procedure will be based upon the symptoms which the person is suffering from, including the outcome of series of test conducted such as cardiac catheterization and echocardiogram. These are the tests which the patient has to undergo to identify if he/she has contracted this disease or not. To display heart enlargement, echocardiogram is performed and similar information is provided in details with cardiac catheterization that can help to identify if there is found narrowing of the coronary arteries.

When opting for this procedure, the valve gets replaced with prosthesis. It can be either biological or mechanical. Choosing any of them will offer similar benefits to the patient. The mechanical one can be expected to function well for a longer time period, while the biological type will cause less formation of blood clots. Patients choosing the mechanical type are required to take anticoagulants or blood thinners. Recovery period lasts for about a week, with the patient requiring to spend in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for around 1-3 days.
